Owen “Keith” Whiteman, 64, of Fairmont, departed this life Thursday morning, October 16, 2025, in the WV Caring Hospice Center in Elkins, with his loving family at his side. He had been in declining health for the past year.
Keith was born December 3, 1960, in Elkins, a son of the late Robert Neil Whiteman, Sr. and Margaret Ida Erickson Whiteman.
He is survived by one brother, Robert “Neil” Whiteman, Jr. and wife Linda of Middletown, Pa.; three sisters: Linda Eber and husband Steve of Teaneck, N.J.; Martha Elrod of Roanoke, Va.; and Pam Van Arsdale of Liberty Township, Ohio; eight nieces and nephews; and a grandnephew and grandniece.
Keith graduated from Elkins High School Class of 1979, and attended WV Institute of Technology in Montgomery.
He worked for FCX Systems, Inc. in Morgantown for over 35 years. He was hired as the first employee at FCX while working with the organization’s five co- founders. His roles over the years included CAD system manager, IT system administrator, project engineer, Research & Development engineer, testing manager, and programming manager.
In his spare time, Keith was an avid geocacher. He had logged over 4,600 finds in every state in the contiguous United States and in Puerto Rico. The caches he maintained were some of the most favorite to find in West Virginia. He also enjoyed woodworking, metal working, and photography.
Keith’s request for cremation will be honored. A memorial service will take place at a later date in Morgantown.
