With sadness, we announce that our beloved mother and grandmother, Rose Marilyn Hanes Angel of Morgantown, formerly of Charleston, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the age of 84.
Rose was born in Charleston December 2, 1940, a daughter of the late Aldo W. and Rosehelena Farnsworth Hanes.
Rose is survived by two sons and their spouses: Michael and wife Annamarie Guthrie of Largo, Fla., and Jeffrey and wife Sharon Guthrie of Morgantown; grandchildren, Justin Guthrie of Atlanta, Ga., Lauren and husband Joshua Riffle of Fairmont, Melissa and husband Scott Faust of Cranberry Township, Pa., William and wife Cori Guthrie of Connecticut, and Michael and wife Holly Guthrie of Virginia; her great- grandchildren, Sophia Jo and Isabella Nicole Riffle, and Michael Guthrie; and her former spouse, Thomas E. Guthrie.
In addition to her parents, two former spouses, Bill Angel and Paul Vermillion, preceded her in death.
For many years, Rose was employed as a gas controller with Columbia Gas in Charleston.
She was quite the pool shark, having shot at many tournaments in Las Vegas.
After a disabling injury forced her to leave her position at Columbia Gas, Rose went to work as a bartender and “everyone’s mom” at Denver’s Depot in Charleston, where, over the years she forged many great relationships with her patrons and co-workers.
Twelve years ago, she came to Morgantown to live with her son, Jeff. She had the honor of being the very first resident to move into the newly constructed Harmony at Morgantown eight years ago. Over the course of time there, just as she had done in Charleston, she made countless good friends and was known as the facility’s “night owl.” She was dearly loved by her fellow residents and the staff there. Every time you left her apartment, she would shout out “Love you More!”
Rose had a “signature style” and wherever she went, everything she wore had to match perfectly from head to toe – from the simplest of outfits to the most elegant, even down to her holiday outfits and jewelry. She always received compliments on her sense of style and people around her loved to take photographs of and with her.
At Rose’s request, a celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 4, in Harmony of Morgantown, 50 Harmony Drive, Morgantown, WV 26505.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation, in her memory, to Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia, 252 Brewer Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.
