Arbutus Moran

Arbutus Louise (Lipscomb) Moran, 89, of Morgantown, passed away Jan. 24, 2022, at her home. She was the daughter of Ervin and Lula Huffman Lipscomb.

She was born in Cumberland Md., on May 14th, 1932, attended Kingwood High School and many years later obtained her GED. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Vincent Pallotti Hospital and Mon Health Medical Center. She was widowed at the age of 42 and raised three children alone. She played the guitar and loved playing country and gospel music. She also performed at many local shows, where she yodeled and was well known for that talent.

She is survived by her daughter, Janis Mayfield (Mark), of Masontown; son, Alan Moran, of Core; two grandchildren, Lisa Blosser and John Mayfield; stepchildren: Clarence “Buddy” Griffith (Martha), of Independence, and Loretta Oleska, of Fairmont; many great-grandchildren; and siblings: Robert Lipscomb, Shirley Snider, Donald Lipscomb and Virginia “Jenny” Snyder, all of Morgantown, Ervin Jr., of Newburg, Arthur, Larry and Carl Lipscomb, of Tunnelton, Phyllis Stewart, of Fairview, Jerry Lipscomb, of Farmington, and Joretta Stone, of Kingwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Moran, in 1974, whom she married in September 1957; recently by a son, Bobby Moran; sisters, Nancy Hines and Dorothy Williams; five stepchildren who loved her dearly; and four infant siblings.

Family and friends will be received at the Morgan Funeral Home in Reedsville, WV, from 5-7 p.m., the time of services, on Friday, Jan. 28, with Pastor Michelle Kennedy officiating. Burial will be at the Maplewood Cemetery in Kingwood at a later date.
