Vera Jean Speicher, 57, passed away peacefully, in her home in Westover, Sunday, September 7, 2025. Born April 19, 1968, in Philippi, to George Shine, Sr. and Mildred Golden Shine, both of whom predeceased her, Vera’s warm smile and gentle manner will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her.
Vera is survived by a loving family: her brothers, George Shine, Jr., Alan Oscher, Lewie Shine and wife JoLynn, Frank Shine and wife Denise, Ron Shine and wife Deb; and a brother-in-law, Larry Moore. She was a doting aunt to her nieces and nephews and a cherished member of a large extended family, including several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Vera’s sisters, Marsha Booth and Darlene Moore; and sister-in-law, Tina Shine, preceded her in death, leaving behind precious memories of their times together.
Vera dedicated her life to caring for others, a testament to her compassionate spirit. She served with devotion as a certified nursing assistant at Albert Gallatin Home Health and Hospice and continued her calling at Mon General Hospital to help those in need. In her most recent role at the VA Medical Center, Vera’s nurturing touch and steadfast presence brought comfort and relief to countless individuals.
With an infectious love for life, Vera reveled in the simple pleasures. She was an ardent fan of West Virginia University sports and the Dallas Cowboys, and found joy tending to her garden, where she cultivated not only plants but joy for family and friends. Those who were fortunate to spend time with Vera, whether it be cheering at a televised game or sharing stories over weeded flowerbeds, knew they were in the company of a true friend.
Vera’s legacy of kindness and unwavering friendship is encapsulated in the word “friendly,” a simple yet profound descriptor of a woman who lived to make others feel seen, heard, and loved.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made, in Vera’s memory, to Stepping Stones, 400 Mylan Park Lane, Morgantown, WV 26501, in memory of her nephew, Adam Shine.
Friends are invited to gather and commemorate Vera’s life in the McCulla Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, September 11.
In honoring Vera’s wishes, McCulla Funeral Home will provide cremation services following the gathering. The Shine family invites all who knew Vera to join them in celebrating her heartfelt impact on so many lives.
