MORGANTOWN - "The Power of Us" is the theme for United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties' 2027 Campaign, which was unveiled at the Community Leaders' Breakfast on Thursday at Vandalia Health's Hazel Ruby McQuain Conference Center.

This annual event is also the kickoff of the United Way campaign and has been sponsored by Vandalia Health. This year marks the 89th annual workplace campaign.

The breakfast gave the local United Way the opportunity to unveil its 2027 Media Campaign to about 100 local community leaders, introducing this year's theme, "The Power of Us," and Seth and Allison Wilson have stepped up together to lead the campaign as the chairs. Seth Wilson is from Bowles Rice LLC and Allison Wilson is from Mountainview Dental.

The meaning behind this year's theme involves local nonprofit partners, volunteers, businesses, donors, and community leaders coming together to find solutions to life's challenging problems. United Way's annual campaign is powering positive change across our community, with a focus on four key impact areas: Youth Opportunity, Healthy Communities, Financial Security, and Community Resiliency. These areas address the challenges our neighbors face today while helping build a stronger, more vibrant community for tomorrow.

At the campaign kickoff, attendees gathered over breakfast to hear from the Wilsons and special guest speaker Michael T. Benson, WVU's 27th president. They also discovered how businesses and individuals can play an important role in the campaign by using United Way's ready-to-share marketing materials to inspire others, raise funds, and help meet critical needs throughout our community.

The members of the Media Embracing the Community initiative, a collaboration of local media outlets, helped create those marketing materials. This year's campaign goal is to raise $1.2 million.

Money raised during the campaign goes toward 30 programs at 26 agencies in Monongalia and Preston counties, as well as United Way's internal programming, such as Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, Helpful Harvest Food Program, the Family Resource Network and WV211.
