WVU Medicine’s tele-stroke program continues to grow

The number of stroke patients at eight rural hospitals — seven in West Virginia and one in Maryland — treated with medication to break up blood clots through WVU Medicine’s tele-stroke program continues to grow. The drug, tPA, is the only noninvasive treatment approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for ischemic strokes, which account for 87% of all strokes. But for tPA to properly break up blood clots, the drug has to be administered within four-and-a-half hours of the stroke, which is where the WVU tele-stroke program comes in. FELLOWSVILLE — In the Marquess, Sinclair, Colebank, Stevensburg area of Preston County, 18 Frontier phone customers are asking legislators and the State Public Service Commission for help. “I haven’t had a land line phone since November 2019,” Norma Murray said. Murray, 71, and her husband, Jerry, 79, have lived on Goff Hill, Moatsville, for 45 years. Their underground phone lines, they believe, have been there longer, since about 1964. City talks airport TIF district

The Monongalia County Commission approved the documentation this week authorizing financial firm Crews & Associates to begin analysis of a potential Morgantown Municipal Airport TIF district. The increment generated by the district would be used to help finance the local match of the city’s $50 million runway extension project as well as the development of a nearby commerce park.
