Remains found in wooded area being cleared for bridge project

MORGANTOWN – Deputies with the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office responded Monday to the discovery of human remains by construction workers in a wooded area between Scott Avenue and Smithtown Road.

Triton Construction is clearing land in the area ahead of the construction of a new road and bridge connecting Grafton Road (US 119) and the Morgantown Industrial Park.

Detectives were called to the scene to conduct an initial investigation.

The individual’s identity is unknown at this time.

The body was transported to the WV Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Charleston for
an autopsy and identification.

Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office Detectives were assisted by members of Mon EMS, Clinton
VFD, MECCA Emergency Management, Morgantown Police Department and Triton Construction.
