MORGANTOWN — The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the
West Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, has confirmed the identity of the human remains discovered Monday by construction workers in a wooded area between Scott Avenue and Smithtown Road.
The deceased has been identified as Andrew Tyler Sweitzer, 33, originally from Garrett County, Maryland. Sweitzer had been residing in Morgantown at the time of his death.
According to a May 28 social media post from the Garrett County Sherrif’s Office, Sweitzer had a bench warrant for violating the terms of probation.
Workers with Triton Construction, the company in charge of clearing land in the area ahead of the construction of a new road and bridge connecting Grafton Road (US 119) and the Morgantown Industrial Park, made the discovery.
The cause and manner of Sweitzer’s death is still pending as the West Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continues its examination.
