Lawmakers told turnpike to begin taking credit cards for tolls early next year

CHARLESTON — The West Virginia Turnpike plans to begin accepting credit cards from drivers at toll plazas early next year. West Virginia Parkways Authority Executive Director Jeff Miller told a group of state lawmakers Tuesday the credit card option will be implemented after everything else with the ongoing installation of a new tolling system is completed. Early this month, lawyers representing federal agencies asked for 23 coal companies owned by Gov. Jim Justice and his family to be held in contempt because over the past year they have made late payments or no payments at all on a settlement agreement over mine safety fines.
