Core man jailed for allegedly killing dog with zip-tie

A Monongalia County man has been charged with felony animal cruelty for torturing or killing an animal after he allegedly strangled his dog to death with a zip-tie at the beginning of August.  Monongalia County deputies were alerted to the incident by neighbors of Daniel Arthur Wichhart, 62, of Core, who called police after Wichhart asked them for a gun so he “put down his dog,” the criminal complaint states.  After denying his request, the neighbor said the following day Wichhart talked about having to strangle the dog to death.  When deputies asked Wichhart ...

Barbour County man arrested after Labor Day police pursuit

The man accused of leading police on a multi-county pursuit on Labor Day is facing a collection of charges for the high-speed chase and events leading up to it.  Dustin Joel Mills, 36, of Volga in Barbour County, was suspected of a home burglary in Fairmont on Sept. 2 which led to the initial pursuit by Fairmont police.  Criminal complaints filed in Marion County Magistrate Court claim Mills is suspected of entering a Fairmont residence and taking more than $1,000 worth of items.  He is also accused of ordering around $78 in food at the McDonald’s on Speedway Avenue ...

Kingwood police officer charged in incident 

A Kingwood police officer was charged Saturday for an incident in which he is accused of discharging a firearm and damaging fiber optic facilities. Preston County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of shots fired at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Brandonville area and found Chase Waugh, 21, of Bruceton Mills, had just fired multiple shots. The shots did more than $2,500 in damage to fiber optic facilities owned by Prodigi, authorities said.
