MORGANTOWN — Monongalia County Circuit Court has sentenced Chance Williams, 26, of Morgantown, to 25 years in state custody following his conviction for the 2022 murder of Jamey Corbin.

The sentencing follows a November 2025 trial in which a jury found Williams guilty of second-degree murder.

The incident dates back to November 15, 2022, when Monongalia County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to what was initially reported as a vehicle accident on Green Bag Road. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered Mr. Corbin unresponsive in the driver’s seat and discovered that Mr. Corbin had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Sheriff Todd Forbes commended the collaborative effort of law enforcement and Prosecutor’s Office in securing the conviction: “This result is a testament to the tireless work of our deputies and the detective division, who gathered the evidence needed for this case. I also want to credit the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for putting forth a clear and concise case to the jury. It was this collective effort that delivered the guilty verdict and ensured justice for Mr. Corbin.”

Under West Virginia law, Williams must serve a minimum of 10 years of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
