MORGANTOWN — West Virginia football landed its first quarterback commit for the class of 2027. Three-star quarterback Andre Phillip announced on social media that he is committing to the Mountaineers. Phillip picked WVU over Iowa State, Army, UTEP and Navy.
Phillip is listed as a 6-foot-2, 190-pound quarterback from Spring, Texas. He’s rated as the 63rd quarterback in the class and 135th-best player in Texas. He is WVU’s first player from the Lone Star State so far this cycle. Phillip has an official visit scheduled from June 5-7.
The Klein Oak quarterback is a multi-sport athlete and runs track along with football. He ran a 10.63 100-meter and a 21.78 200, making for another dual-threat for Rich Rodriguez. His first highlight on his Hudl is taking a read option for an 80-yard touchdown. Phillip can also push the ball downfield, sitting in the pocket, delivering a deep pass.
Phillip is the 10th commitment for the Mountaineers for 2027, and the fourth offensive recruit. WVU started the cycle off heavily recruiting defense, but has kicked it up on the offensive side of the ball. With Phillip, WVU is now the 24th overall recruiting class in the nation and third in the Big 12.
