UPDATED: Mon County Sheriff’s Office investigates reports of threats involving Cheat Lake Elementary School

MORGANTOWN – Following the information released on Friday regarding a report of a student threatening harm to others at Cheat Lake Elementary School, the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office has concluded a thorough investigation.
In collaboration with school staff and Monongalia County Board of Education administration, investigators have fully vetted the report and have determined that the alleged threat is not credible.
Out of an abundance of caution, the sheriff’s office and school administration will maintain a heightened presence and implement precautionary measures when school resumes Monday morning.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s remains committed to the safety of the county’s students and faculty and asks that parents and members of the community continue to report incidents as they arise; however, the public is urged to allow the proper authorities the necessary time to assess and investigate such reports.
The safety of county schools remains a top priority, and the ongoing cooperation and patience of all Monongalia County residents is appreciated.
