Chris Cottrell, 64, of Stewartstown Community, Morgantown, passed away Monday, May 4, 2026, in the Ruby Memorial Hospital, with his family at his side. Born in Morgantown July 21, 1961, he was a son of the late Roosevelt “Rose” and Betty Fitch Cottrell.Chris was a proud coal miner, having worked for more than 20 years underground and retiring from Blacksville #2 Mine, and a member of the UMWA.He loved being outdoors, hunting for that big buck or fishing, and taking care of his “baby”, his 1976 Ford pick-up.Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Mabel Hunter Cottrell; two daughters, ...

John R. “Too Tall” Townsend, Jr., 65, of Morgantown, died Friday, May 1, 2026, in Morgantown. He was a son of the late Terry Lee (Michael) Townsend Lash and John Robert Townsend, Sr.John worked in construction and home repair as a self-employed painter, and also in the maintenance department of West Virginia University.Survivors include three children; a brother, William Townsend of Morgantown; and others.There will be no public services.
