Summer series looks at health

The summer Nature Connection Series continues this week at the WVU Core Arboretum’s woodland amphitheater. The talk begins at 6 p.m. today. The series runs each Tuesday evening through the summer. Researcher explains role on Mars Mission

BY MIKE NOLTING Over the last year, West Virginia University geologist Kathy Benison has been part of the team guiding the work of the Mars 2020 Mission team. Benison is an expert in extreme environments like Mars, and is working on a team of Return Sample Selection Participating Scientists on the mission. The workhorse of the mission is the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover. The rover has cameras, microphones and a complete weather station — all sending data back to researchers. WVU will be closed Monday for Juneteenth

WVU TODAY West Virginia University, including WVU Tech, Potomac State College, Extension offices and WVU Research Corp., will close Monday, following a declaration issued by Gov. Jim Justice proclaiming a state holiday in recognition of Juneteenth. Juneteenth, which is held on June 19 each year, celebrates the ending of slavery in the United States. This year, June 19 falls on a Sunday. As a result, the University will follow its protocol to observe the holiday on the following Monday, June 20.
