M-SNAP awarded $50K grant for spay/neuter services

Mountaineer Spay Neuter Assistance Program  was awarded a $50,000 grant from The Peterman Foundation. The program — known as M-SNAP — has a  mission  to eliminate euthanasia as a means of pet population control in Monongalia County, said Nancy Young, treasurer and chair of community outreach. “We know that spay and neuter is the only viable solution to pet overpopulation,” Young said. “We don’t rescue, foster, transport or adopt. Heart association offering education, screenings for cardiovascular disease

The American Heart Association estimates  44 million women in the U.S. are affected by some sort of cardiovascular disease, the number one killer of women. In conjunction with the National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health, the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute will  host a free education and health screening at the institute next to J.W. Groups build enclosure for barred owl named Jeff

In combined efforts between The Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia  and Americorps, volunteers braved the brisk winter cold to build an enclosure for a barred owl  looking to move into educational programming with the nonprofit. Katie Fallon, one of the Board of Directors from ACCA said the owl, named Jeff, came to the program unable to be returned to the wild. In order to be transferred from a rehab permit to an educational permit through the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, he must have a permanent home of his own. Main Street Morgantown welcomes new leadership

Main Street Morgantown recently elected new executive committee members to lead the organization. Gigi Villarreal was elected to serve as president, according to a press release from MSM. Dominick Claudio is the new vice president, L.J.
