Suspect arrested during Spruce Street burglary

MORGANTOWN — A Virginia man was arrested Wednesday after police said they found him burglarizing a downtown church.
Samuel Durosimmie Cole, 21, of Springfield, Va., was charged with breaking and entering.
About 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, officers of the Morgantown Police Department responded to report of a burglary in progress at the First Presbyterian Church on Spruce Street, according to a criminal complaint.
A concerned citizen reported seeing the suspect break a window and enter the building, a MPD press release read. The church’s alarm was sounding, lights were flashing and a window at the rear of the building was broken. Officers searched the building and found Cole inside. He was taken into custody without further incident, the release stated.
Cole was “extremely intoxicated” and said he was in the church to use the gym because of a girl, the complaint said.
Cole was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court by Magistrate Darris Summers. Bond was set at $5,000 and has been posted.
