Influenza season begins Oct. 1: Experts recommend getting a flu shot sooner rather than later

School is back in session, the weather is starting to get cooler and Oct. 1 will be here before you know it. Two detained in August ICE operation

Little is still known about the operations Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted in Morgantown on Aug. 15. Monongalia County Sheriff Perry Palmer and Morgantown’s Communication Manager Andrew Stacy both confirmed to The Dominion Post they received notice from the federal organization that agents would be in the area. Mon County sheriff seeks new deputies

The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department is looking to fill two open deputy positions. Sheriff Perry Palmer said the department is accepting applications until Sept. 12. Applications can be downloaded at monsheriff.com, picked up at the department at 116 Walnut St., or at the county clerk’s office at 243 High St. Applicants will take both the civil service exam and a physical fitness test on Dec. 5. Poky Dot restaurant damaged in fire

The iconic Poky Dot restaurant was damaged in a fire Friday morning. The blaze was reported about 5 a.m. There were no injuries reported. “First unit reported a working fire, flames coming from the rear of the building, and we initiated an aggressive interior attack,” Fairmont Fire Chief Ed Simmons told WAJR Radio. The fire began in the restaurant’s banquet room, Simmons said. Firefighters were able to keep the damage there. Area hotels filled to capacity as football season begins

If you’re going to the Mountaineers’ first home football game today against James Madison University and want to stay overnight in Morgantown, you’re probably out of luck. Many of the hotels within walking distance of Milan Puskar Stadium, like the Hampton Inn on Van Voorhis Road or the Euro-Suites Hotel on Chestnut Ridge Road, are sold out.
