Preston Commissioners back UMWA resolution

KINGWOOD — The Preston County Commission passed a resolution this week in support of “protecting and preserving,” UMWA Plan pensions and health care. Commissioners Dave Price, Don Smith and Samantha Stone voted 3-0 for the resolution. Marion, Kanawha, Marshall, Brooke and other counties passed similar resolutions. The resolution says the bankruptcies of Murray Energy and smaller companies place the UMWA fund in jeopardy, possibly affecting 87,000 retired coal miners. Subdivision regulations document not done, pushed back to early 2020

Monongalia County Director of Planning Andrew Gast-Bray said the county’s subdivision regulations document is about 80% complete. The timeline for getting the regulations before the Monongalia County Commission for public comment and a vote has been pushed from November to early 2020. “I really do think we could force this through now, but why,” Gast-Bray said. “The whole idea is the outcome. Cemetery, two employees respond to religious harassment allegations

Oak Grove Cemetery and two of its employees responded to allegations of anti-Semitic harassment made by a former employee. The cemetery, Fred Drummond and James Overfield all deny claims of religious harassment, reprisal for reporting religious harassment and common law wrongful termination made by Joshua Kyle in a lawsuit. The response seeks the dismissal of all those charges and judgment in the favor of the defendants, with costs.
