Laurel College of Technology held its Spring graduation recently at the Holiday Inn in Morgantown. Opening comments were given by Nancy Decker, president and CEO of Laurel Institutes, then Campus President Sherri Rimel presented degrees and diplomas to the graduates. Degree valedictorians, Lisa Fortner and Krystle Wolfe, addressed their fellow students together with a congratulatory and encouraging speech. CHARLESTON — State Treasurer Riley Moore announced the 15 regional student winners and statewide teacher winner of this year’s SMART529 “When I Grow Up” essay contest. Virtual school, Pierpont partner on classes

FAIRMONT — A new collaboration between West Virginia Virtual Academy (WVVA) and Pierpont Community and Technical College will allow WVVA students to take dual credit classes through Pierpont and potentially earn an associate degree or earn credit toward an associate degree by the time they graduate high school. Preston BOE announces adjustments to 2024 high school schedule

KINGWOOD — The 2024 school year will bring one more class period to Preston High School. A schedule adjustment will take PHS from seven periods per day to eight, according to Todd Seymour, PHS principal. Seymour told Preston County Board of Education members this week the state added a half credit to the schedule so a second half credit had to be added. He said when he looked at the course schedule, not a lot of students were choosing fine arts as an elective. States pursue laws to govern pelvic exams

A new batch of states is looking to legislate the level of informed consent when it comes to medical students performing pelvic exams for educational purposes on unconscious patients. At least 20 states already have consent laws for this practice.
