Ruth Ellen Croaston

It is with great sadness that the family of Ruth Ellen Croaston announce her unexpected passing Wednesday, April 29, 2026, in her residence. They share this news after taking time to grieve privately and come to terms with this sudden loss.
Ruth was born September 12, 1958, to the late James and Susie Croaston of Jere.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her common law husband, Keith Huffman; and siblings, Shirley Thomas, James Croaston, Jr., Debra Freeland, Janet Barnett, and Loran Croaston.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Andrea Huffman of Illinois, Karen Sue Huffman of Morgantown; her son, Anthony David Croaston; grandchildren, Faith Kay Slider and Ervin “Vinny” Hary, IV; sisters, Aileen Bohon (Melvin), Charlotte Shephard, Judy Garner, and Peggy Freeland-Strong; along with many nieces and nephews.
Prior to her passing, Ruth was employed with the Army National Guard, where she took pride in her work. Though her greatest accomplishment was her children and grandchildren, whom she loved and provided support for in every achievement and milestone.
Ruth enjoyed reading, shopping, working puzzles, and spending time with her friends. She never met a stranger or forgot a friend. She would greet you with a beaming smile, a contagious laugh, and a funny story to share.
Her warmth, kindness, and spirit will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Per her request, she was cremated by Smith Funeral & Cremation Care of Westover.
