Donald Barrett Smith

Donald Barrett Smith, lovingly known to family and friends as “Smitty”, “Duck”, and “Sweet William”, peacefully departed this life Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 6:09 p.m., in Mercy Health St. Joseph Warren Hospital, following complications from an extended illness. He was 79 years old.
He was born May 29, 1946, in Omar, Logan County, the son of Joseph Smith and Jessie Vanable. He resided in the Warren area for 55 years, coming from Savannah, Ga. Donald was a proud graduate of Morgantown High School.
Donald was employed with Delphi Packard Electric for 33 years as a machinist before retiring in 1998. He also attended Kent State University at Trumbull.
He attended Third Christian Church. He was the founder and coach of the Warren Little Browns football team. He also coached basketball and baseball within the Warren City Leagues. Donald enjoyed bowling, fishing, wine- making, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Donald served honorably as a sergeant in the United States Air Force as an electrical production specialist from 1967-1973, receiving several honors for his service.
On January 25, 1969, he married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Blue Smith. Together they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage until her passing March 30, 2022.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Donald Bradley (Myia) Smith and Timothy Barrett Smith, both of Columbus; three daughters, Ms. Marcia Lewis of Martinsburg, Ms. Deirdre Goliday and Elder Beverly Michelle Locke, both of Warren; and an honorary daughter, Ms. Sharonda Taylor of Columbus; two sisters, Ms. Eglociree “Sis” Walker of Warren and Ms. LaSharon “Cookie” Smith of Morgantown; 38 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Eddie G. Smith, Marcus “Champ” Smith, Gwathaney Smith, Robert “Bobby J” Smith, Carl Smith, Daryl Price, and Robert “Jocco” Price; and one sister, Jeanette Smith.
Family and friends are invited to gather in the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, 10 S. High Street, Morgantown, WV 26501, Saturday, May 30, from 10 until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Gwen McKinley officiating. Following the service, Donald will be laid to rest beside his wife at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
