Ruth Marie Atkins Dunaway

Ruth Marie Atkins Dunaway, 93, passed away peacefully, in her home, Monday, May 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born June 25, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Earl Curtis Atkins, Sr., and Anna L. Jaynes Atkins.
Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother, whose greatest joy was her family. She will be remembered for her love, kindness, and the many cherished memories she created with those closest to her.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, crafting, and reading her Bible faithfully every day. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her three children: Diane White and husband Bill of French Creek; Bill Dunaway and wife Cheryl of Fairmont; Jeanette Dunaway of Morgantown; granddaughters, Trudy Ward and husband Creed of Volga, and Amanda Scardina and husband Tony of Clarksburg; her great- grandchildren, Quill Ward and wife Robin, Ike Ward and wife Cassondra, Ivy Ward and fiance Nathaniel, and Andy Huff and fiancee Kayla, and Alexandra Huff; her great-great- grandchildren, Paityn, Sallie, Scarlett, Decan, and Ira Ward; her brother, Ray Atkins and companion Linda of Morgantown; numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Glenn “Sonny” Dunaway; and brother, Earl C. “Bud” Atkins and wife Betty Jo; sister, Doris Cunningham and husband Bob; sister-in-law, Brenda Atkins; and nephews, Richard Atkins and Eddie Atkins.
The family wishes to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Morgantown Hospice, especially Diana, Grace, Sarah, Marley, Veronica and Sierra, for their compassionate care and support shown during Ruth’s final days.
Friends and family will gather in the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home, 10 S. High Street, Morgantown, WV 26501, from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, and again Thursday, May 21, from 10 until the time of services at 11 a.m., with Pastor Rich Schimansky officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.
