Raymond Clark Varner of Mount Morris, PA, affectionately known to many as “Skieze” passed away on Sunday, May 10th, 2026, after an extended illness. He was 80 years old.
He was born December 13, 1945 in Pentress, WV, he was a son of the late Charles and Goldie Brewer Varner.
Survivors include his two daughters, Rhonda and husband Gary Sine who reside in La Belle, PA, and Chelle Varner at home; two grandchildren, Dylan Varner and Rhiannon Sine Smith and husband Jacob who also reside La Belle, PA; his siblings Derle “Jake” Varner, Ralph Varner, Everett Varner, and Ethel “Toots” Varner. Additionally, he leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Frances Lynn Harmon Varner on June 14th, 2025; his siblings, Charles Varner, Jr., Ruby “Sis” Hemmer, Ira “Buck” Varner, Richard Varner, and half-sister Betty Skedel.
Skieze was employed at Peabody Federal #2 mine for 30 years. He was a member of the local UMWA 1570 in Fairmont. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during the Vietnam conflict on the USS Albany.
He enjoyed fishing, listening to bluegrass music, watching old Westerns, football and college softball. Skieze always had a great sense of humor and could make you laugh in an instant.
A celebration of Skieze’s life will be held at a later date by his family.
