Mitchell R. Funk Jr.

Mitchel Ray “Mitch” Funk, Jr., 52, of Reedsville, passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 10, 2026, at home.
He was born in Morgantown, on August 6, 1973, a son of the late Mitchel Ray Funk Sr. and Terri Funk Braddock Sypolt and her husband, Dave Sypolt, of Kingwood.
Mitch was a loving husband, father, pap, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was a 1991 graduate of West Preston High School and graduated from West Virginia University in 2010. Mitch proudly served his country in the United States Army where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
He worked as a mining engineer, performed mine safety training courses and owned his own tree cutting business. Mitch enjoyed farming, being out on the tractor mowing hay, hunting, playing pool and cheering his boys on during dirtbike and four-wheeler races. He was an avid hobbyist and antique collector of all “usable” things.
More than anything, Mitch cherished spending time with his whole family, especially all the kids. He always lived life to the fullest and there was never a dull moment when he was around.
In addition to his mother, Mitch is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Melody Queen Funk; his children: Shonna and fiance, Cole Hauger, Kyle Queen and companion, Alex Fiorini and Kristian “Buggy” Funk and wife, Leeara; foster son, Jacob; six grandchildren: Trevor, Harper, Brandilynn, Killian, Kaven and Kander; many very special bonus boys he claimed as his own; bonus grandson, Fletcher; one brother, Ricky Funk and wife, Tanya; nephew, Cody Funk and wife, Sam, and their children, Roy and K-D Funk; niece, Shaniah Harrison and her daughter, Areena Harrison.
In addition to his father, Mitch was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Betty and Richard Funk and maternal grandparents, Roy “Old Pap” and MaryJo “Nanny Jo” Braddock.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 14. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 15. Interment will follow in the Shaw Cemetery.
