Midweek prep roundup: Clay-Battelle’s Strosnider tosses no-hitter against Greenbrier West

MORGANTOWN – The Mon County Classic got off to a strong start on Thursday evening as Clay-Battelle battled Greenbrier West to begin the weekend at Kendrick Family Ballpark.

The Cee-Bees earned a solid 12-0 win in five innings over the Cavaliers to improve to .500 (4-4).

Clay-Battelle senior Cayden Strosnider made the most of his start on the mound on Thursday, throwing all five innings without allowing a hit and striking out 10 batters. He was a walk away from a perfect game.

The Cee-Bees tallied 11 hits as a unit, led by freshman Maddox Kisner with a pair of hits, three RBI, and a run scored. Junior Corey Coen hit an inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the third and totaled three RBI as well. Parker Bane and Jaxon Huggins joined Kisner with multiple hits.

Morgantown picked up its 10th win of the campaign with a 9-2 victory over Linsly on Wednesday. Senior Koa Silvers was 2 for 4 with a triple, two runs, and an RBI in his second game back from injury. Seven MHS batters combined for nine hits in the contest.

Pitchers Greyson Campbell and Dominick Hertzog combined to allow five hits while earning 11 strikeouts.

Preston earned its fourth win in a row with consecutive victories. Tanner Thomas tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing three hits in a 9-0 victory over Fairmont Senior on Wednesday before a 13-1 triumph over North Marion on Thursday with 15 hits throughout the lineup.

Junior Bryson McNew doubled and tripled on Wednesday before hitting his third home run of the season on Thursday. PHS will welcome Buckhannon-Upshur to Kingwood on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

After a 4-1 start, Trinity Christian fell to Bridgeport (Oh.) in both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL

The 2nd-ranked University softball team defeated Wheeling Park 13-5 on Thursday with 15 hits. Six of the Hawks’ hits were for extra bases, with seniors Olivia Masoner and Maddie Campbell each tallying two. Five UHS batters also earned at least one RBI.

Morgantown fell to Chariters-Houston (Pa.), 5-1, on Wednesday. The Mohigans earned only three hits and struck out 10 times as a team, falling to 8-4 in 2026.

Preston defeated Fairmont Senior 5-3 on Wednesday behind a strong effort in the circle from Nevaeh West, tossing 5.2 innings with only three hits and two runs allowed, striking out seven batters.

The Knights then fell to North Marion 6-1 on Thursday, dropping to 4-8.
