KINGWOOD — Two people were charged after a Masontown Police officer said he found them parked along the trail with drugs, guns and a child not dressed for the weather. Hayle M. Collingwood, 24, of Reedsville, was charged with child neglect creating substantial risk of death or serious injury. Alex Ryan Pyles, 25, of Tunnelton, was charged with possession of meth with intent to deliver, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and the child neglect charge. County opts out of negotiations with opiate companies

Monongalia County has opted out of a first-of-its-kind national negotiating class aimed at consolidating lawsuits against opiate manufacturers and distributors. At the urging of legal counsel, the commission on Wednesday voted to refuse participation in any negotiations made possible by a recent ruling from U.S. District Judge Dan Polster, of Cleveland, aimed at consolidating thousands of lawsuits in order to encourage settlements. Brush fire takes hours to tame, burns 8-10 acres

Several acres of brush in a wooded area off Statler Run Road burned Monday night. The cause of the fire is unknown, Blacksville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Kevin Wilson said. He estimated 8-10 acres were on fire and said it was mostly underbrush that burned — the trees are still standing. “All the small stuff is gone,” Wilson said.
