A communications tower used by 911 to cover the western end of the county is damaged and needs replaced but could offer an opportunity to expand broadband in the area. “It’s very vital,” MECCA 911 Director Jim Smith said Monday at an emergency work session of the Monongalia County Commission. Second W.Va. Corrections employee positive for COVID-19

CHARLESTON — A part-time employee at the Huttonsville Correctional Center has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting additional precautions at that facility. The individual, who is quarantined at home in good condition, has been serving as a temporary correctional officer and last worked a shift of less than four hours May 14. He reported experiencing a headache that evening, and was tested for COVID-19 the following day. The test result came back positive over the weekend. Attempted murder suspect arrested in Fairmont

A Fairmont man wanted for attempted murder was arrested in his hometown early Monday morning. Shawn Monte Pritchard, 34, was arrested about 1 a.m. near AFR Road, according to Acting Chief Deputy US Marshal for the Northern District of West Virginia Terry Moore. The Fairmont Police Department wanted Prtichard for attempted murder. He is accused of shooting at two people on Hoult Road on May 3.
