If 5% tax cut passes, Jim Justice wins but W.Va. loses

In a surreal turn of events, we find ourselves in the company of the likes of gubernatorial candidate Patrick Morrisey and Senate Finance Chair Eric Tarr — all of us opposing Gov. Jim Justice’s insistence on an additional 5% personal income tax cut. What we agree upon: There is no urgent need for the extra cut to the personal income tax, which will already receive a 4% cut because of triggers built into the law passed last year, which is in addition to the over 21% tax cut that has already gone into effect. FMHA wants to develop affordable housing. County, city should help

Christal Crouso, executive director for the Fairmont-Morgantown Housing Authority, recently told The Dominion Post the FMHA would like to take another look at developing the parcels of land it owns in Monongalia County. The FMHA is an organization that exists to help people with housing needs. It operates public housing units in Fairmont and offers a variety of vouchers to assist with housing costs, including for veterans and Section 8 (low-income) housing, and rental assistance. Mountain Line makes top 50 in nation for efficiency

We’re a little late to the party, but we’d like to congratulate Mountain Line for being in the top 50 most efficient transportation systems in the U.S. The Community Transportation Association of America recently ran the ridership per capita numbers — a way to measure efficiency — on every public transit system in America. Out of over 500 systems, big and small, Mountain Line ranked 46th in the country at 20.52 trips per person. Comparing it only to comparably sized systems, Mountain Line jumps all the way to 20th.
