The West Virginia Legislature will be seeing some new faces in January after Tuesday’s midterm general election.
Senate District 2
Toby Heaney is heading to West Virginia's 2nd District as senator.
Heaney, an economist and combat veteran who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, bested his challenger Chris Claypole by a margin of 15,397 votes to 11,628.
Claypole is the grandson of the late Eugene Claypole, a longtime lawmaker and United Mine Workers officer.
Both men sought the seat after Charles Clements, who had held it for several years, had decided not to seek reelection last November.
Said district covers all of Wetzel, Tyler, Ritchie, Calhoun and Doddridge counties - plus portions of Marshall, Monongalia, Marion and Gilmer counties.
Heaney ran on a platform of job and infrastructure creation - and said he'll carry that through in the district.
Senate District 13
Democrat John Williams has unseated longtime state Sen. Mike Oliverio in West Virginia’s Senate District 13.
Williams’ 15,503 votes, or 55%, propelled him past the 11,647 votes for the Republican incumbent in the seat that covers eastern Marion and central Monongalia counties.
The husband, father and insurance professional ran on a platform of addressing the affordability crisis.
Williams, of Morgantown, is currently serving the end of his fifth term in the West Virginia House of Delegates District 80, where voters gave Olivia Miller the nod with 2,986 votes over Constitution Party opponent Melissa DeSerio with 496 votes.

In District 78, Democratic challenger Michael Wendell unseated Republican Geno Chiarelli by securing 3,124 votes, or 53.8%.
With a roaring 77.2% of the votes in District 79, Democrat Evan Hansen retained his seat through a challenge from Mountain Party candidate Paige Reiring.
Incumbent Democrat Anitra Hamilton held on to her District 81 post without challenge, and Democrat Eddie Wagoner beat Republican incumbent David McCormick with 3,284 to 2,770 votes in District 82.
All results are unofficial until certified through canvassing, which will take place Monday at the county's election headquarters in the Mountaineer Mall.
