Reedsville couple to mark 70th anniversary

2 min read

George and Louise Krynicki of Reedsville celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on Oct. 27.

They were married at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Bretz, which later became St. Zita’s in Masontown. Both their wedding reception and 70th anniversary party took place on the Krynicki family farm.

George is the son of the late Ignatz and Jennie Krynicki. He earned a living as a coal miner and a farmer. Starting as a laborer, he advanced to superintendent at Humphrey and Osage mines. Since retiring from the mines, George continues to work on his farm, raising Black Angus cattle. He trains rabbit and hound dogs for hunting -- a favorite hobby.

Louise is the daughter of the late Felice and Elsie DeSantis. She served the community in numerous ways throughout her life, including being a homeroom mother, band booster president, ambulance EMT and a member of the firemen’s auxiliary. She served as the St. Zita’s Altar and Rosary Society president for many years. Louise is known for her flower gardens, baking and cooking, and fabulous Christmas and Easter celebrations. If you know Louise, she has probably sent you a card in the mail.

George and Louise are lifelong residents of Preston County. In early retirement, the couple traveled to Hawaii, Alaska and Europe. These days, they can be found at the bowling alley for community leagues and family gatherings. They continue to take pride in gardening and raise plenty of produce to feed family and friends. Louise gives this advice: “A marriage isn’t always 50:50. Sometimes it’s 80:20 one way and then it’s 80:20 the other way. It just has to average close to 50:50.”

God blessed George and Louise with four daughters: Sue (Bryan) DeHoff, Debbie Metheny, Lisa Krynicki and Janet (Robert) Boring. Their grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Patrick and Jameson DeHoff; Katelyn (Andy), James and Aria Darnell; Abby, Luis, Denilsson, Tais, Rolanda and Reina DeHoff; Leslie (Brad), Noah, Teagan and Elon Robey; Jackie (Branden), Jane, Dana, and Samuel Bellanca; Stephanie (Glen) and Daniel Mehlrose; Kristen (Wayne), Coal, Reese and Paige Park; and Ryan (Sally), Royce, Louella and Lincoln Boring.

Three grandchildren have passed away: Kent Metheny and twin infant siblings, as well as their son-in-law Frank Metheny.
