Charlene J. Weber, 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
Born in Morgantown, West Virginia, Charlene grew up in the Morgantown area and graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal and Veterinary Science and Commercial Art. Throughout her life, she called several places home, including Pocahontas County, West Virginia, Virginia, and Florida, before eventually retiring in Masontown, West Virginia.
Charlene was an intelligent, artistic, detail-oriented woman with a gentle and kind nature. She had a keen eye for detail, a creative spirit, and a natural ability to understand how things worked. Her artistic talents included drawing, and she had a particular interest in anatomical illustration, reflecting both her creativity and her educational background. She also enjoyed stained glass crafting and was skilled in crossbow and rifle marksmanship, pursuits that reflected her patience, precision, and wide-ranging interests. Throughout her professional life, she worked in management and real estate and possessed a remarkable knowledge of construction.
Her greatest passion, however, was the equestrian world. That love was sparked in childhood when her father would take her for pony rides every Sunday after church. What began as a cherished childhood tradition grew into a lifelong passion. Charlene rode, showed, raised, and taught horses, sharing her knowledge and love of all things equestrian with others. Throughout her competitive equestrian career, she earned numerous local, state, and national honors, including state championships and Grand Champion titles. She also rode and showed horses for many other owners throughout her career, earning recognition for her skill and dedication in the show ring. Among her beloved horses was Beauty’s First, affectionately known as Bugsy. Her achievements also included Grand Champion recognition in the Authentic Period Horse and Rider category at the Pocahontas Days Parade. In her younger years, she practiced animal husbandry, reflecting her lifelong dedication to the care and well-being of animals. Her love of animals extended far beyond horses, and her appreciation for art reflected another side of her creative spirit.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Thelma Jamison of Morgantown, West Virginia, and her husband, Jack Weber.
She is survived by her sons, John L. McNeel, his wife, Melodie, and Charles R. McNeel; her three stepchildren and their families; her grandson, Hayden L. McNeel; her step-grandchildren, Josh Wallace and Faith Johnson; her sister, Julie Nunez; her nephew, Eric Biser; and many other family members and friends.
Charlene lived a life guided by her passions, her convictions, and her love for the people and animals who shared her journey. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories, lessons, and stories that will continue to be treasured by those who knew her.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. To honor her Charlene’s wishes Field Funeral Home of Masontown will provide professional and compassionate cremation services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Pocahontas County Animal Shelter or your local animal shelter in Charlene’s memory, honoring the special place animals held in her heart throughout her life.
Somewhere beyond this life, where the pastures stretch endlessly and the horses run free, we are certain Charlene is riding again.
