$2.4M in unclaimed property returned in September

CHARLESTON - State Treasurer Larry Pack announced Thursday that his Office's Unclaimed Property Division returned more than $2.4 million worth of funds to individuals, businesses and organizations during the month of September.

"Every month, our Unclaimed Property Division is putting millions of dollars back into the hands of West Virginians," Treasurer Pack said. "These September returns are another reminder that unclaimed property can add up quickly, and we encourage everyone to take a few minutes to search our online database and see if money is waiting for you."

The Unclaimed Property Division returned a total of $2,424,832 paid out across 3,793 claims representing 22,651 individual properties during the month of September.

The top five claims paid in September include:

$109,000 to an individual in Huntington

$108,000 to an estate in Blacksville

$93,000 to an individual in Morgantown

$56,000 to a business in Morgantown

$50,000 to a trust in Morgantown

Since the start of Fiscal Year 2027, which began on July 1, 2026, the Treasurer's Office has returned more than $9.4 million to rightful owners.

The State Treasurer's Office now has more than $530 million worth of listings in its database.
