Douglas "Dougie" Lee Martin, 38, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 28, 1987, Dougie was a true Halloween baby. He embraced the holiday with all his heart, spending hours watching his favorite scary movies, especially the Scream franchise, and dressing up alongside his beloved animatronics to scare the kids on Halloween. His love of the holiday was just one of the many things that made Dougie uniquely and wonderfully himself.
Dougie was a proud graduate of Morgantown High School and remained a loyal Mohigan throughout his life. He never missed a Mo-Hawk Bowl and took great pride in cheering for his school.
He was also an avid participant in the Special Olympics, where he was a force to be reckoned with on the basketball courts. Dougie loved competition, but even more, he loved being part of a team and sharing those experiences with the people around him.
His interests were as big and colorful as his personality. Dougie loved professional wrestling, especially the ladies, and he was quite possibly the world's number one Power Rangers fan. He could spend hours scouring conventions and flea markets in search of anything and everything Power Rangers. His collection and his passion for the Rangers reflected the joy he found in the things he loved.
But more than anything, Dougie loved people.
He had a special gift for making others happy and loved finding ways to brighten someone's day. He enjoyed sending cards to his family and friends, always through the mail, and looked forward to Christmas and birthdays with tremendous excitement. He would meticulously shop for gifts throughout the year, taking just as much joy in watching his loved ones open their presents as they did receiving them.
Family was the center of Dougie's world. His mother, Melissa, was his rock. His father, Kirk, was his protector. And his brother, Stephen, was his best friend. The love they shared was deep, unwavering, and unmistakable.
Dougie will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Melissa Martin; his father, Kirk Martin; his brother, Stephen Martin; his grandmother, Maxine Huffman; his Aunt Cricket (Viola) and Uncle Charles Bryant; his Aunt Chrissy (Christina) Rea; Uncle Mark and his Aunt Dana Martin, Uncle William and Aunt Linda Martin, and Aunt Janet Martin,Uncle Larry Davis, cousins, Kimathy Allen, Angie and Joe Hickman, Travis Quinn, Ryan Quinn, Tanner Martin, Christina Nuce, Monica Davis, Leslie Davis, Raygan and Dakota Hickman-Hogue, Kasyah Hickman, and Holden Hickman.
He was preceded in death by his cousin, Erin Quinn, and his uncle, George Cutlip, his aunt Rita Cutlip, maternal grandfather Walter Huffman, paternal grandparents William Martin and Eleanor Jean Lipscomb, his aunt Sharon Martin, his uncle Neil Nuce, and his aunt Brenda Martin.
Dougie leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, traditions, and love. His absence will be deeply felt at every family gathering, every holiday, every birthday, and every moment when someone reaches for the mail expecting one of his cards.
He was deeply loved in life, and he will remain deeply loved in death.
Dougie is so loved, and he will always be in our hearts. His absence at our gatherings will forever leave a heaviness in our hearts, but the love and memories he gave us will remain with us always.
” You’re leaving, I’m waiting, Forgive me I’m always missing you Before the goodbye I feel it, already Forgive me I’m always missing you"
