Aurora School evacuated for gas odor

By JENIFFER GRAHAM 1 min read

KINGWOOD - An early morning alert about concerns related to a gas odor in the Aurora School kitchen resulted in a decision to dismiss students at 10 a.m. Thursday.

School staff contacted the Preston County Emergency Management Office, and students and staff were relocated to the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department. The move was to allow time for the building to be assessed by members of the Aurora VFD, PCOEM, members of the school maintenance staff, representatives from the gas company and the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Following a walk-through and assessment of the facility, members of the State Fire Marshal’s Office said a gas leak could not be detected and the associated odor was determined to be a sewer gas odor from a dry trap in the sink in the school’s STEM lab. School is scheduled to proceed Friday.
