MORGANTOWN- Terra Cafe clears up misconceptions regarding its closure and ownership in a Facebook post Tuesday.
According to the announcement, Terra Cafe is owned by "an independent group of individual investors," not by the March-Westin Co. According to the West Virginia Secretary of State, Terra Cafe LLC is owned by Kevin Salisbury, Craig Behr and Dana Weser.
Salisbury is the certified public accountant-chief financial officer / vice president of finance for March-Westin, according to the company's website. Dana Weser is the widow of March-Westin co-founder Phil Weser. Their involvement in Terra Cafe is separate from their ties to the construction organization.
Terra Cafe LLC was sold to the investors on July 1, 2025, and there is no record of March-Westin's previous ownership of the restaurant.
According to the post, Terra Cafe has "not been sold," but the investors are exploring new tenant options for the space.
Terra Cafe announced its immediate closure in a separate post on Monday due to the "current economic environment."
"It is with deep sadness that we announce the immediate and permanent closure of Terra Café. We will always cherish the laughter, celebrations and many meals that were shared," the post said.
The investors expressed their concern for the community and staff in their second post, specifically for the hardship of their team members and a "lack of notice" of their layoffs.
"No one is more saddened by this closure than the investment group behind Terra Cafe. We set out to build something special for Morgantown, and for 15 years it was. Terra Café was part of this community’s gatherings, celebrations and everyday routines, and we are proud of what our team and our guests built there together. It is heartbreaking that this chapter has to come to an end," the post said.
According to employees, staff was notified late Sunday night of the cafe's closure the following day.
