Nathan Carl Hardin, 44, of Morgantown, WV, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 11th, 2026, in Elkins, WV.
He passed away in a place he loved, doing what he enjoyed most, despite his ongoing health struggles.
Born on August 13th, 1982, in Morgantown, WV, he was the beloved son of Rosann Liberatore and Richard Hardin, who supported him endlessly.
He was a lifelong Morgantown resident and a graduate of both MHS (Class of 2000) and WVU (Wood Sciences). He built a career at Mylan Pharmaceuticals before enduring a long health battle due to a congenital heart condition. Throughout his school years and career, he made many dear friends, whom he deeply cherished.
His greatest joy came from spending time with his sons and sharing with them his vast knowledge of the outdoors. He was happiest outside in the mountains of West Virginia, especially at "bear camp" and the family farm in Philippi, WV. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and preserving the vegetables and fruit he grew in his backyard. He could always be found tinkering on a new project or refining a recipe. He recently delved into the craft of making maple syrup and was looking forward to expanding his operation with his dad next season. Nathan also treasured the time spent in his backyard, sitting around the fire pit with neighbors who quickly became family over the years.
Incredibly generous, Nathan was always quick to share his time and his latest homemade creations. He possessed a unique ability to find humor in any situation, even during his most difficult days, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
He was married to the love of his life, Heather Arbogast, on September 7th, 2013, at the Hardin family farm – a place that holds endless memories for their family. Heather's grace and strength throughout his illness were remarkable, providing the rock Nathan and their sons needed, and will continue to need.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Elisabeth and Carl Hardin; his maternal grandfather, Arthur Liberatore; and his dear friend, Charlie Stieringer.
He is survived by, and will be deeply missed and forever loved by, his parents; his loving wife of 13 years, Heather; his three sons, Rhett (11), Elias "Eli" (10), and Reece (7); his grandmother, Irene Modzik Liberatore; his brother and brother-in-law, Mark Hardin (Rich Buterbaugh); his step-nieces Ali and Addie; his in-laws, Lisa and Alfred "Bill" Arbogast; and brother-in-law, Robert Arbogast (Shawna).
Nathan was surrounded by a fiercely supportive and loving extended family, including many devoted aunts and uncles: Cynthia Straface (David), Victoria Cather (Carl), Diane Lofstead (David), James Hardin (Kathy), and Ann Feather, who was like an aunt. He also leaves behind his close cousins: Audrey Martine (William), Daniel Straface (Shannon Morton), Caitlin Cather (Brian Carlson), Drew Cather (Danin), and Sarah Straface (Meghan), who was like a sister, born only 12 hours after Nathan; alongside many more loving extended family members.
The family extends their deepest gratitude for the care and treatment Nathan received at UPMC and The Cleveland Clinic.
Friends and family will be received at Dering-Henson Funeral Home, 156 Foundry St., Morgantown, on Wednesday, September 16th from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, September 17th from 10 until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Junius Lewis officiating.
Burial will be in East Oak Grove Cemetery, Morgantown, WV.
