Will Green has been appointed interim President and Chief Executive Officer of the WVU Foundation. Green joined the Foundation in 2024, serving as Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer. In addition to his time at the WVU Foundation, Will brings over 20 years of senior executive experience in fundraising in both health care from Rutgers Health and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and higher education at Villanova and University of Pennsylvania.
"On behalf of the Board, I want to express our full confidence in Will's appointment," said Wayne Richards, Chair of the WVU Foundation Board. "Throughout his tenure, he has demonstrated sound decision‑making, strengthened relationships with key stakeholders and donors, and invested in developing his team. The Board is confident in his ability to provide clear, thoughtful leadership during this transition and we are fortunate to have a leader of Will's caliber leading the Foundation."
Since joining, Will has fostered meaningful partnerships across the University and strengthened collaboration with donors.
"West Virginia University is accelerating forward with momentum as we strengthen our access mission, pursue academic excellence, and implement our Strategic Compass to set the course for our bold future," said WVU President Michael T. Benson. "The WVU Foundation plays a critical role in the success of those priorities, and I look forward to partnering with Will to rally our loyal Mountaineers to position us for continued success."
Will made significant progress toward strengthening philanthropic performance, talent development, and institutional partnerships. During his tenure, he has restructured the critical development enterprise to bring greater clarity and alignment and has made significant investments in ensuring the continued success of the Foundation's fundraising team.
"I am proud to step into this leadership role for the WVU Foundation," Green said. "I joined the Foundation because I believed in the impact that WVU and WVU Medicine have in the state of West Virginia and around the world. I look forward to working more closely with President Benson and his team to advance the priorities of WVU's Strategic Compass and working with WVU Medicine to advance healthcare for the people of West Virginia and beyond."
Green succeeds Cynthia "Cindi" L. Roth, who previously announced her plans to retire as President and Chief Executive Officer of the WVU Foundation in fall 2026.
"Will is a mission-driven, focused, values-based leader who has made outstanding strides during his time at the WVU Foundation," Roth said. "Our future is bright with Will leading during this important period."
Green will serve in the role as interim President and Chief Executive Officer until a permanent President and Chief Executive Officer is named.
