Lifetime Morgantown resident, Sally Lee Mayfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at age 89. She was born on May 7, 1937, to the late Willowbelle Lee Moore Reed and Ralph Scott Reed.
Sally spent her early years growing up with her parents and extended family in the Greenmont neighborhood of South Park. She attended Second Ward, Morgantown Junior High and graduated from Morgantown High. Through a chance meeting, at the soda fountain in the old Moore and Parriott Drug Store on High Street, she met Clifford Daniel Mayfield who had attended University High. They married on July 7, 1956.
Together, with dreams and ambitions, they started a family and had five children. Sally unfortunately became widowed on January 24 1972, when Clifford passed away from a medical condition at age 34. She assumed duties of raising her family with great strength, passion and commitment.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Richard (Danny) on February 18, 2019.
She is survived by children: Kathy, Craig (Sherry), Amy and Brian; sister, Jean; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who she cherished and adored.
Honoring Sally's wishes to donate her body to WVU Medical Science there will not be a traditional funeral service. She was a long term member of the Kingdom Hall congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, with many friends established over the years.
They will have a memorial service announced at a later date, and there will be a celebration of life with family and friends.
