CLARKSBURG - The Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center will host a Veteran Claims Clinic on Thursday at the Nathan Goff Armory in Clarksburg. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m.
Representatives from the Veterans Benefits Administration, the West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance, and Disabled American Veterans will be on-site to provide one-on-one assistance for veterans. Services will include filing a new service-connected disability claim, checking the status of an existing claim, receiving guidance on benefits, or filing for a re-evaluation of a previously filed claim.
Recent laws have expanded eligibility for VA health care for veterans with toxic exposures and for veterans of the Vietnam, Gulf War and post-9/11 eras, adding more than 20 presumptive conditions for burn pits, Agent Orange and other toxic exposures. On-site toxic exposure screening will also be available for all attending veterans.
All veterans are encouraged to bring a copy of their DD214 (discharge paperwork) and any other supporting military or medical records related to their claim. Veterans not currently enrolled in VA health care will be able to easily enroll upon checking in at the event. In addition to claims assistance, multiple VA services and resources will be available to provide information regarding healthcare benefits.
All North Central West Virginia veterans are encouraged to attend and explore the benefits they have earned.
“Many veterans may think, 'Maybe someone else deserves this benefit more than I do.' But the truth is, this benefit is for everyone who served. All veterans deserve it, without exception," said David Hollenback Jr., Acting Executive Director.
