Morgantown Community Newcomers Club
Are you new to Morgantown and the greater Morgantown community? Or you live here already or have experienced a recent life change and wish to expand your circle of acquaintances and familiarity with the area's people and places. Either way, the Morgantown Community Newcomers' Club welcomes you! The club also welcomes members from surrounding areas.
Club activities help newcomers and native community members connect and include monthly coffees and luncheons featuring area speakers, an annual fall picnic, and special interest groups such as walking, books, movies, games, cooking, and wine tasting as well as special trips and activities.
Upcoming monthly members' coffees are held on the first Wednesday of the month, 10 a.m. - 12 noon, on Sept. 2, Oct. 7, Nov. 4, and Dec. 2 at various locations and include a speaker or program. The Sept. 2 coffee will be held at the West Virginia Botanic Garden--please contact the club in advance if you are interested in attending. Monthly members' luncheons are held at various area eateries on the third Wednesday of the month, 11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m., starting Oct. 21, and continuing with Nov. 18 and Dec. 16. Luncheons feature a speaker.
Luncheons and coffees are opportunities for new members to meet current club members and learn how club membership can further connect them with their community. Morgantown Farmers Markets
Summer Saturday Markets will be held downtown at the Spruce Street pavilion from 8:30 a.m. to noon and Wednesday Markets will be held at Mylan Park from 4 to 7 p.m. Check www.morgantownfarmersmarket.org for the calendar and updates.
Arnettsville Farmers Market
Arnettsville Farmers Market is open for the season on Mondays from 4 to 6 p.m. at 4120 Fairmont Road, Morgantown. Follow Arnettsville Farmers Market on Facebook. Family reunions
-- The 131st Brown Family reunion is scheduled for noon Sunday, Sept. 6, at Gladesville Community Center in Preston County. Chicken, beef and pork will be provided, and attendees are asked to bring their favorite side dish to share. The reunion will feature a raffle so please bring items to raffle. Also bring a homemade dessert to be judged in the dessert contest. -- The 80th Shisler Reunion will be held Sunday, Sept. 6, at Camp Muffly in Morgantown. Chicken, beef and ham will be provided and guests are asked to bring their favorite side dishes to share. The Family Fun Extravaganza Festival features days of family entertainment at The Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport, continuing through Aug. 29. The festival brings together a huge variety of entertainment in one location, including Gambill Amusements carnival rides and midway games, the Cartoon Headquarters Fun Zone inflatable area, festival food, family activities, live entertainment and special attractions. Open every day beginning at 4 p.m., except for Sunday at 2 p.m.
August 29

WVSL Solutions will hold its Kickoff to Recovery event, taking place from 3 to 8 p.m. at Edith B. Barill Park in Star City. The event marks the commencement of National Recovery Month, a nationwide observance that has been celebrated since 1989. This event is open to the public, and admission is free. Participants can expect to engage in activities, receive valuable information, and connect with others in the recovery community. WVSL Solutions encourages everyone to join in this momentous occasion and celebrate the journey of recovery together. This year will host the event's first 5k walk/run, which participants can register on site for $25.
September 17-19
The 2026 West Virginia Quilt Festival, with the theme of "Happy Birthday, USA" in honor of the nation's 250th birthday celebration, will be held at Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley. Daily admission to the West Virginia Quilt Festival is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years old. There is no charge for children under 2. The festival quilt display will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The West Virginia Quilt Festival also offers numerous classes about quilting techniques to those who sign up. The deadline for class registration is Aug. 31. The West Virginia Quilt Festival will have raffle baskets, a raffle quilt, a West Virginia Quilters Inc. Market with ready-made items and a Little Quilt Auction. There will be an open silent auction Thursday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and each day will feature a different selection of Little Quilts. www.wvquilters.org

West Virginia Pawpaw Festival will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at the Core Arboretum, Monongahela Boulevard, Morgantown. Come to WVU Core Arboretum to taste, buy and learn about pawpaws! This annual event celebrating a native fall fruit of the forest is family-friendly, free and open to the public, no registration needed. The festival will be in the Lawn Area at the Arboretum, and free parking is available in the adjacent WVU Coliseum parking lot. We will have Peterson Pawpaws select varieties of pawpaw fruit available to sample and purchase, samples of pawpaw dishes prepared by a chef, a talk by a pawpaw expert, the North American Pawpaw Growers Association booth, pawpaw trees and other native plants for sale, live music, food trucks and more. This is the 8th annual WV Pawpaw Festival at WVU Core Arboretum. Pawpaw (Asimina triloba) is the largest fruit native to West Virginia. Pawpaws have a delicious tropical flavor that some describe as a combination of banana, mango and pineapple and a smooth, creamy texture. Pawpaws ripen in autumn, and we host several pawpaw events at the Arboretum each year to coincide with pawpaw season. Even though pawpaws are fairly common, many people have never tasted a pawpaw, and we hope to change that!

Tribute to The Cranberries comes to the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25-$60, plus ticket fees, and are available online at therobinsongrand.com, by phone at 855-773-6283 or at the Theatre Box Office.
