University High’s Kaleil Lewis can fill any role on the field

MORGANTOWN – When the University High School football team takes the field for the first time in 2026 on Friday night, hosting Musselman to open the new season on Baker's Ridge, they'll do so with plenty of names to look out for.
Many of those players will serve in specific roles for the Hawks, like quarterback Harrison Helbig, offensive lineman Luke Braham, and wideout Hayden George.
But another impact player for UHS is senior Kaleil Lewis, who serves as a true utility player for head coach Eric Snyder's club.
A true tri-sport athlete who also plays a key role on the UHS basketball and track and field teams, the 6'3, 205-pound "KK" Lewis can virtually play any position on the gridiron, utilizing his size and speed to his advantage.
Last season, Lewis lined up at nearly every position from wide receiver to defensive end. He finished 2025 with 39 catches for 611 yards and seven touchdowns offensively. Defensively, he recorded 50 total tackles and three interceptions.
"KK has the size and speed to successfully be a three-level player," Snyder said. "His speed helps him play in the secondary when we need him to, and his size allows him to make an impact on the defensive line in some situations."
Lewis is a natural athlete whose ability could translate to all sports at the next level.
Coach Snyder says the adaptability Lewis shows is priceless to his program.
"He's able to be an X-factor because of his willingness to play different positions on the field and help the team," Snyder said. "It's a massive contribution. The best thing is his ability to make plays that aren't a part of statistical categories. He blocks and helps spring big runs, and his route running usually draws the attention of multiple defenders. Things like that truly make the offense click."
He performed best during the Hawks’ run to the Class AAAA semifinals with six catches for 139 yards and a touchdown that came in the upset over No. 2 Huntington in the quarterfinals.
With Lewis joining Helbig, George, Kyle Weaver, and Brody Kehler on the UHS offense, expect him to be someone you see all over the field in 2026.
