The United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties' mission is simple: to enhance the quality of life in our community by helping those in need. For 90 years, we've helped support local charities, sponsored community events, and provided resources for those needing immediate assistance.
From our recent strategic planning survey that was sent out to the community, it has made us aware that trust in United Way is strong, but what we do specifically is a little bit of a mystery to some.
Here are some fast facts about United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties:
• United Way MPC is an independent, volunteer-directed community organization governed by a 39-member board of directors representing the communities it serves. Members meet once a month to discuss goals, finances, programs, the annual campaign, and upcoming events.
• When it comes to efficiency, United Way MPC has received Charity Navigator's 4-Star Rating. The administrative rate of 7% is significantly lower than the average of 35% recommended by the Charities Review Council.
• Volunteers are the backbone of our organization having donated 2,365 hours of service in 2025 during events such as Day of Caring, Holiday Toy and Food Distribution, and the Blue and Gold Mine Sale, totaling $66,622.05 in impact dollars.
• We work along-side our funded partners to address the needs in four impact areas: Youth Opportunity, Healthy Communities, Financial Security, and Community Resiliency. This crucial funding supports 30 programs at 26 agencies in Monongalia and Preston counties, including our internal programs: Helpful Harvest Food Program, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, WV211, and the Family Resource Network.
• In 2025, United Way MPC raised over $1.2 million through its annual campaign. Adding in community impact dollars we've received through grants, sponsorships and other revenue, we invested nearly $3 million into the community.
