Many events are coming up in the greater Morgantown area to ease the transition out of the relaxing summer months into this busy fall season. No matter how you indulge in the arts, there is certainly something you will enjoy during the last few days of August and Labor Day weekend. What better way to indulge in the sweetness of summer one more time?
August 28: Ladies' Night at The WOW! Factory
This activity is for any woman seeking an artistic and relaxing evening. Gather your girlfriends and head to The WOW! Factory in Star City to paint, sip and save. All attendees receive 20% off one pottery piece during event hours, which run from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Don't forget to bring your favorite wine, bubbly or beverage of choice to enjoy while letting your creative juices flow. There will be no shortage of great vibes, good music or creative inspiration.
August 28: Ruby Summer Concert Series – 38 Special
If you haven't been to the Hazel Ruby McQuain Amphitheater yet this summer, now is your chance. 38 Special will be headlining the final show of the Ruby Summer Concert Series, with The Michael Webber Show opening at 7 p.m. It will be an evening packed with timeless, classic rock, followed by a fireworks show. The concert is free admission, with handicapped parking, food vendors and children's activities available.
August 29: MAC A-Go-Go! A 60's Soiree
The Monongalia Arts Center (MAC) will be hosting its fourth annual fundraiser at 7 p.m., with a swingin' 60s soiree theme. Event features include live music by Back in the Day Show Band, live silk-screen printing, art demos, a themed cocktail bar, an outdoor garden party, a raffle and more. Supporting this fundraiser allows the MAC to continue its mission of inspiring local creativity in the heart of Morgantown, so grab a regular or VIP ticket, or consider becoming a sponsor!
September 4: First Friday – Art Exhibition
September's First Friday will be no exception to downtown Morgantown's transformation into a vibrant celebration of arts and music in the community. Highlights this month include the final showing of Judi Cain's gallery at Morgantown Art Party and "Mopscapes from Hastings Farm" by Michael Green at The Co-Op. Also, stop by the MAC for the WVU School of Art and Design Adjunct Faculty Show. As always, live musicians will accompany some exhibitions, and the event will run from 6 to 9 p.m.
September 4: Hubbard Street Dance Chicago
Kicking off the 2026-2027 University Arts Series is Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, one of the nation's leading contemporary dance companies. For almost 50 years, they have been inspiring audiences worldwide with their exceptional talent, evolving repertory and powerful storytelling through movement. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Canady Creative Arts Center, featuring works by Nacho Duato, Gwen Verdon, Bob Fosse and Aszure Barton.
September 4 & 5: Tropics Summer Concert Series
With shows every Friday and Saturday night, the Tropics Summer Concert Series has been a local staple. This Labor Day weekend, enjoy a performance from Fret Buzz on Friday night and Lee Gantz on Saturday night.
Both artists contribute to the series' unique sound and fun atmosphere all summer long. Tropics also offers refreshing drinks and an appetizing menu to start your long weekend the right way.
