MORGANTOWN – From Aug. 7-24, the Monongalia County Sheriff's department will partner with the West Virginia Governor's Highway Safety Program (GHSP) for its "Click It or Ticket" high-visibility enforcement mobilization.
This partnership unites law enforcement agencies in a statewide effort to "ensure every driver and passenger is properly buckled up."
The program's goal is to increase regional seatbelt compliance to avoid injuries and save lives in Monongalia County. Sheriff Todd Forbes stressed the importance of wearing a seatbelt at all times.
"A seatbelt takes two seconds to put on, but it can buy you a lifetime," Forbes said. "We'd much rather remind a driver to buckle up today than have to deliver devastating news to a family tomorrow."
Forbes reminds residents that seat belt violations are a primary offense, according to West Virginia Law.
The Sheriff's Office maintains a year-round partnership with the GHSP. For more details on the initiative and state highway safety programs, visit highwaysafety.wv.gov.
