Douglas Keith Neely, known to many as Doug, passed away Monday, August 10, 2026, in Morgantown, at the age of 78.
Doug was born August 28, 1947, in Morgantown, and spent his life rooted in the community he called home.
He was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam era from 1966 to 1967. His service reflected the quiet strength, loyalty, and sense of duty that would remain with him throughout his life.
Following his military service, Doug built a respected career as a plumber and pipefitter with Local #152 in Morgantown. He took pride in his work and in the value of a job done well.
Doug was a family man whose greatest joy came from the people he loved. He is survived by his children: Melinda Southerly and her husband, William; Michelle Turner and her husband, Lorenzo; Melissa Yondura and her husband, James; Darin Neely and his wife, Dawn; Derrick Neely. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Guy, Darian, Mathias, Peyton, Cayden, Katharine, Tristan and wife Alexia, and Gavin. He is also survived by his sister, Sherrie Collins and her husband, Robert; as well as his sisters-in-law, Barbara Ryan and her husband, Danny, and Debbie Neely.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Kenneth Neely and Evelyn Neely; his wife, Janice Neely; and his brother, Greg Neely, whose memories remained an important part of his life; he carried their love with him always.
Doug enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him comfort and happiness. He liked watching curling and, when he was able, playing pool with his brother and brother-in-law. He was also a devoted fan of WVU Sports, the Steelers, and the Pirates, and he followed them with enthusiasm and loyalty. These interests were part of the rhythm of his life and reflected the many ways he found enjoyment in everyday moments.
Family and friends are invited to gather in McCulla Funeral Home Sunday, August 16, from 3 to 6 p.m. Visitation will continue in the funeral home Monday, August 17, from 10 until the funeral service begins at 11 a.m., with Pastor Kevin Cain officiating. Following the service, Doug will be laid to rest in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, with military honors conferred by Westover VFW #9916 and WVANG Military Honors, Camp Dawson.
