Morgantown High junior quarterback Maddox Twigg aims to build on the successes of 2025

MORGANTOWN – After leading his team to the Class AAAA state championship and claiming the J.R. House Award as the top quarterback in West Virginia, Morgantown High School junior quarterback Maddox Twigg still has his sights set on reaching bigger heights.
When fall camp opens on Monday, Twigg will automatically be in the discussion as the best player in the state on one of the top teams in Class AAAA, and he wants to make sure that discussion continues.
"This offseason, I've focused on bringing the team together more as a family," Twigg said. "Getting a connection down with my receivers has also been a focus in the summer. Coming into this year, we want our passing game to open up our run game."
Twigg says carrying over the mentality the team had last season is what equips this year's roster to do the same.
"We have the mentality of working as hard as we can in practice and in the weight room outside of game day, so when we come up against our opponents in a game, it's natural for us to do the same," he said. "We return several key players on both sides of the ball and have added a few new players that will help us as well."
Only a rising junior, there's still plenty of room to grow for the state's top QB.
"Last season I learned how to manipulate a defense with my vision," he said. "Both in the passing game and in the running game. I'm able to pull safeties a certain way to help my receivers get open or even use my eyes to send a defender the wrong way when running at them."
Twigg and the Mohigans will be expected to be at the top of Class AAAA for the entire season and fight for another state title.
"I want to lead my team to another championship, first and foremost," he said. "I also want to be the best defensive back in the state. I want to win the Kennedy Award, as well as repeat all the awards and recognition I did last season. Above all, though, I want to win."
