Joyce Lee Conrad, 81, of Morgantown, passed away Friday, July 3, 2026, in Morgantown, surrounded by the love of her family and the memories of a life devoted to others.
She was born May 21, 1945, in Cowen. Joyce was a woman of quiet strength, steady devotion, and deep compassion. She built her life around her family and found her greatest purpose in caring for those she loved. As a homemaker, she gave generously of her time, her energy, and her heart, creating a home filled with warmth, comfort, and unconditional love.
Joyce was a devoted mother and grandmother, whose presence brought reassurance and kindness to every gathering.
She is survived by her children, Carrie Conrad and Arthur of Morgantown, and HD Conrad II of Morgantown. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Kyle Conrad and Kayla, and Erin Sims and Wesley. Joyce took great pride in her family, and her love for them was evident in the many ways she supported, encouraged, and cared for them throughout her life.
She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Thomas and Betty Wallo; her brother, Jim “Buck” Tharp; and her aunt, Mary. Joyce treasured her family connections and valued the bonds that tied generations together.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Lawsel Tharp and Nanna Carpenter Tharp; husband, Harry D. Conrad; and her sisters, Genean Lamb, Carol Rose, and Ruth McCourt.
Those who knew Joyce will remember her as a kind and caring woman, who placed family above all else. She had a nurturing nature and a calm presence that brought comfort to others. Her home was a place of welcome, and her life reflected the simple, but profound gifts of love, patience, and devotion. She will be remembered not only for the roles she fulfilled, but for the grace and dignity with which she lived each day.
Family and friends may gather in McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Westover, Tuesday, July 7, from 3 until the time of a memorial service at 6 p.m., with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating.
