Jack L. Britton, 95, of Morgantown, died Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Jack was born June 27, 1930 in Auburn, Ritchie County, the son of the late Alston and Ormeda Sommerville Britton.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954, as an airborne weather equipment operator.
He was a 1958 graduate of West Virginia University, with a B. S. degree in Civil Engineering. He obtained his professional engineer registration in 1962. As a civil engineer and real estate broker he spent his working years in the planning, design, construction and management of residential, commercial and office properties.
For many years he was active with several organizations and associations. He was a Life member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Tau Beta Pi, and the National Rifle Association. He was a Member of Morgantown Police Civil Service Commission. He was the Morgantown Board of Realtors president (1976) and the West Virginia Association of Realtors president (1981). He was the Mason Dixon Rifle Club treasurer. He also served as a trustee of various local trusts.
During his free time, Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing and following WVU sports.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Alan Wise of Morgantown; one son, Jack Lee Britton of York, S.C.; three nieces and spouses and one nephew and spouse; and four great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Phyllis Welch Britton, who passed away May 19, 2026.
In addition to his wife, parents, and stepmother, Nell Bartlett Britton, he was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Gough and her husband, Jerry Gough. Also preceding him were brothers-in-law, John R. Welch Jr. and Charles A. Welch; and sister-in-law, Rena Haddad and her husband, Robert Haddad.
Friends and family will be received in Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, Thursday, June 25, from 3 to 6 p.m. A graveside committal service will be held at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown Friday, June 26, beginning at 1:30 p.m., with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating.
