WVU football picks up commitment from 2027 long snapper

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia football earned its first commitment from a special teams player for the class of 2027. Warren Flatt announced his commitment to the Mountaineers on social media.

The West Aurora, Illinois, native had a couple of trips to some Power Four schools, including Arkansas and Ohio State. But after an official visit with the Mountaineers and talking to special teams coordinator Pat Kirkland, he picked WVU.

He’s listed at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, which is much bigger than the average size of a long snapper. But, it fits right into what Rich Rodriguez is trying to do at the line of scrimmage, of getting large bodies to move mass.

Flatt is listed as a 4.5-star, according to Kohl’s Kicking. Kohl’s Kicking handles a lot of the special teams recruiting rankings. He’s ranked as the No. 18 long snapper in the class. Flatt snaps with “elite consistency and control,” according to Kohl’s, and had a 0.68-second snap time and charted as the No. 7 snapper in the class.

He is the first special teams recruit for the class of 2027, but he’s the 21st player for the class, which was off to a slow start, but it’s slowly growing. The 2026 class had almost 50 recruits sign by the time it was all done.
